Position overview
We have an exciting opportunity within our People Team for a HR/People Advisor. As our People Advisor you will play a key role in providing professional and comprehensive HR support and advice to both colleagues and managers.
JOB TITLE: HR/People Advisor
SALARY: £28-35k DOE
HOURS: Monday- Friday 37 hour per week
LOCATION: North Chailey / Hybrid

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Essential:
- GCSE Grade C or above, or equivalent in English and Maths
- Relevant professional CIPD qualification in HR or willingness to work towards
- Good command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
- Previous experience working within an HR environment
- Thorough knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices.
- Experience in handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills with the ability to multi-task, organise/prioritise workload and delegate appropriately.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships
Desirable:
- Knowledge and understanding of educational, residential or health setting (desirable).
Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a team to provide professional, confidential and colleague centric advice across the full ‘employee lifecycle’.
- Work with stakeholders, highlighting management data to support, paying particular attention to sickness absence, annual leave, other leave and performance management.
- Adopt a positive, complete and consistent approach to colleague offboarding, including timely communication and exit interviews.
- Provide advice and guidance to administrative colleagues on the team to ensure they are competent to carry out allocated tasks.
- Provide advice on workplace conflict resolution strategies, mediate and help to resolve when needed, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
- Act as a primary point of contact for colleague enquiries, concerns and conflicts.
- Provide advice and guidance on People policies, processes and employment legislation.
- Manage and resolve employee relations issues, ensuring fair and consistent treatment.
- Coach and support managers to proactively handle colleague issues to avoid instigating an employee relation issue or formal process.
- Conduct appropriate investigations, contributing to the resolution of employee relations issues. Ensure necessary paperwork and accurate notes are maintained, as needed.
- Manage documentation, including colleague files, contracts, and other relevant records
- Provide required data for regular reporting, or ad hoc requests, in support of Key Performance Indicators, trend analysis, insights or project improvement work.
- Collate feedback/data on reasons for leaving, flagging themes and concerns where appropriate.
- Dedicate time/focus to HRIS system capability; develop/maintain skills and knowledge to maintain system effectiveness and suggest ways to improve or develop further.
